Russia’s ambassador to the United Nations has issued a stark warning in the aftermath of President Donald Trump’s coordinated airstrikes on Iran, describing the U.S. operation as a reckless act that could spiral into global disaster.
Speaking during an emergency U.N. Security Council meeting on Sunday, Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia condemned the U.S. for what he called “irresponsible, dangerous, and provocative actions” targeting the Islamic Republic of Iran. He accused Washington of blatantly disregarding international norms by striking a sovereign U.N. member state.
“Through its actions, the United States has opened Pandora’s box,” Nebenzia said. “No one can foresee the full range of consequences that may follow. Unless this escalation is halted, the Middle East risks descending into full-scale conflict, endangering global security and potentially bringing the world to the brink of a nuclear catastrophe.”
The comments came in response to the U.S. operation known as “Midnight Hammer,” in which American B-2 stealth bombers and cruise missiles targeted three major Iranian nuclear sites: Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. The strikes aimed to disable Iran’s uranium enrichment infrastructure amid escalating hostilities between Iran, Israel, and the United States.
Nebenzia also accused the Trump administration of callously ignoring the radiological risks of such strikes. “This act of aggression shows complete disregard for the health and safety of civilians throughout the region, including women and children.”
He added that Russia had repeatedly offered to mediate the nuclear standoff diplomatically but that its proposals were dismissed. “Diplomacy does not seem to be a priority for our American colleagues at this moment. Responsibility for the fallout from these attacks lies squarely with the U.S. leadership.”
