A 34-year-old Arkansas man is facing three counts of first-degree murder after allegedly killing his mother, stepfather, and sister in a brutal early-morning attack that has stunned the quiet community of Bryant, just outside Little Rock.
Police say Jarrod Mitchell was arrested hours after the triple homicide, which occurred in the early hours of Saturday, June 22. According to a press release from the Bryant Police Department (BPD), officers were called to the scene around 7:30 a.m. after the sister’s husband returned home from a night shift and discovered the gruesome crime.
All three victims — whose names are being withheld by authorities pending full notification of relatives — were pronounced dead at the scene. Each had sustained fatal gunshot wounds, police confirmed.
In a chilling detail, investigators revealed that three young children were present in the home at the time of the killings, though miraculously, none were harmed. Authorities have not confirmed the relationship of the children to the victims but stated that they are now in safe custody.
The Bryant Police Department noted that there were no signs of forced entry or indication of a home invasion, raising suspicions early on that the crime may have been committed by someone familiar with the victims.
Within eight hours, Mitchell was taken into custody and booked into the Saline County Detention Center, where he remains held without bail, according to jail records. His first court appearance is expected in the coming days.
