Trump Threatens Musk’s Empire
Trump didn’t hold back in his late-night Truth Social response, threatening to unleash DOGE on Musk’s business empire — Tesla, SpaceX, and Starlink — all of which rely heavily on government contracts and tax subsidies.
“Elon may get more subsidies than any human in history,” Trump posted. “Without subsidies, he’d have to close up shop and head back home to South Africa. No more rocket launches, satellites, or electric cars. BIG MONEY TO BE SAVED!!!”
Trump also reminded supporters that Musk knew from the start he opposed government-mandated EVs.
“Electric cars are fine, but forcing people to buy them is crazy. That was always a part of my campaign. Elon knew it, and he endorsed me anyway.”
A Political Breakup Goes Public
The rift is now fully out in the open. What began as quiet policy disagreements has erupted into a public spectacle — with Musk threatening to form a new political party, dubbing Trump’s GOP the “Porky Pig Party,” and calling for a national movement to stop the bill.
“What’s the point of a debt ceiling if we keep raising it?” Musk posted early Tuesday. “All I’m asking is that we don’t bankrupt America.”
Trump, meanwhile, has continued to brush off the feud — publicly calling Musk a “wonderful guy” — even as he doubles down behind the scenes.
With the bill’s July 4 deadline looming and opposition mounting from some libertarian-leaning lawmakers, the battle between Trump and Musk is shaping up to be one of the most high-stakes political grudge matches of the year.
And if Trump makes good on his threats, Musk may soon learn what it means to be on the wrong side of DOGE.
