“Our hearts are with the family and all those impacted by this devastating incident,” city officials wrote in a public statement.
Efforts to recover the father have been severely hampered by dangerous conditions on the river. Officials reported that recent heavy rainfall caused water levels to rise significantly, creating strong currents and flooding that have made large portions of the river “difficult or impossible to access safely.”
Multiple agencies have joined the rescue and recovery mission, including the Akron Fire Department, Cuyahoga Falls Fire Department, Summit County Water Rescue Team, Metro Parks Rangers, and the Ohio State Highway Patrol. Specialized equipment—such as rescue boats, infrared-equipped patrol helicopters, and aerial drones—has been deployed in the effort to locate the missing man.
City officials have issued a public advisory warning residents to stay away from the Cuyahoga River and the surrounding Gorge Metro Park area. They cited “hazardous water conditions” and the need to avoid disrupting ongoing operations.
“This is a stark reminder of how quickly river conditions can turn deadly,” one official said. “The safety of our first responders and the public remains our top priority.”
As the community reels from this devastating loss, the search for Braxton’s father presses on — a painful mission made more urgent by the sorrow left behind.
