A heartbreaking tragedy unfolded over the weekend in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, where a 5-year-old boy lost his life and his father remains missing following an inner tube accident on the Cuyahoga River, local authorities confirmed.
Emergency crews responded to a distress call on Saturday evening, June 21, just before 7 p.m. local time, after reports surfaced that a man and his young son had disappeared beneath the surface of the river while riding an inflatable inner tube near Broad Boulevard, in the area of Gorge Metro Park.
Despite extensive search efforts, the boy’s body was not located until the following morning, Sunday, June 22. He was pronounced dead at the scene shortly before 9:30 a.m., according to the Akron Fire Department. His body was then transferred to the Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office for further examination.
Chief investigator Gary Guenther identified the victim as 5-year-old Braxton Cross. Authorities say the search for Braxton’s father is ongoing and has entered its third day. Search teams resumed operations on Monday, June 23, at 8 a.m., with officials stating they are “fully committed to locating and recovering the missing individual.”
