A 4-year-old boy suffered serious burns during a family visit to an Oklahoma children’s museum over the weekend after a hands-on activity took a tragic turn.
The incident occurred on the afternoon of Saturday, June 21, at the Jasmine Moran Children’s Museum in Seminole, according to reports from CBS affiliate KWTV, NBC affiliate KFOR, and ABC affiliate KOCO.
The child, identified as Ryker Corona, was taking part in a museum event when he was severely injured in a sudden flash fire.
According to museum officials, the accident happened during an indoor activity involving a s’mores-making station, which had been set up as part of a summer celebration. The equipment reportedly included a grill and hand sanitizer — a dangerous combination that may have contributed to the explosion.
Makala Pevehouse, a close friend of Ryker’s family, told KWTV that the boy had just been handed a s’more by his mother when the fire erupted. “And at first, you just see, like…big flames,” recalled another witness, Daycee Phillips. “Then I looked down and the little boy’s on the floor, flopping around, trying to put himself out.”
