Witnesses said the child was briefly engulfed in flames before nearby parents rushed to his aid, using water to extinguish the fire.
Emergency services responded around noon. Ryker was quickly airlifted to a hospital in Oklahoma City with second-degree burns on his chest, face, and arms, according to Pevehouse. His current condition has not been publicly released.
In a statement posted to its Facebook page, the Jasmine Moran Children’s Museum described the incident as “unfortunate” and said it occurred during a supervised, interactive activity.
“First aid was administered immediately by trained staff, and emergency services were contacted,” the statement read. “The safety and well-being of every child and family who visits our museum is our highest priority.”
The museum confirmed that the activity involving the s’mores maker has been suspended pending a full investigation and review of safety protocols. “We are committed to learning from the situation,” they added, “to ensure we continue to provide a safe, fun, and enriching environment for all children.”
A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to support Ryker’s family as they navigate the emotional and financial challenges ahead.
