Kevin Federline sued over six figure debt after Britney Spears’ monthly payments end

Kevin Federline is facing legal action from his bank over an outstanding debt exceeding $100,000, just months after the child support payments he received from his famous ex-wife, Britney Spears, officially came to an end.

The 48-year-old former dancer, who shares two sons with the pop superstar, allegedly owes City National Bank at least $117,704. According to court documents obtained by Page Six, the outstanding balance involves a credit card, a personal line of credit and an overdraft.

The bank claims Federline failed to meet several repayment deadlines. His overdraft payment was due in April 2025, followed by his personal line of credit in June of that year. He was given until August 2026 to settle the credit card balance.

In addition to the outstanding amounts, Federline is also expected to pay interest on the debt. The reported interest rates include 20.5% on the credit card, 18% on the overdraft and 7.5% on the personal line of credit.

The legal dispute comes at a particularly notable time for Federline, whose financial circumstances have drawn attention following the end of the monthly child support payments he received from Spears for years.

The End of Britney Spears’ Monthly Child Support Payments

For much of the past two decades, Federline received regular financial support from his former wife while raising their two sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James.

The boys spent much of their childhood living with their father, who eventually moved with them to Hawaii. During that time, Spears paid Federline $40,000 per month in child support.

However, the amount was reduced after their eldest son, Sean, turned 18 in 2023. The monthly payments dropped by half, from $40,000 to $20,000.

The financial arrangement eventually came to an end altogether after their younger son, Jayden, graduated from high school a couple of years later.

While $40,000 a month might sound like a substantial amount of money to support two children, Federline has previously argued that the expenses involved were far greater than many people might imagine.

In his memoir, You Thought You Knew, he explained that maintaining the boys’ security and ensuring they could continue enjoying the lifestyle they had become accustomed to while living with Spears came with enormous costs.

According to Federline, those expenses “easily ran well over $40,000 a month.”

“The money was gone almost as soon as it came in,” he added.

His comments offered a glimpse into the financial responsibilities he says came with raising the children of one of the world’s most recognizable pop stars.

Kevin Federline and Britney Spears’ Relationship Timeline

Federline and Spears first met in 2004, and their relationship quickly developed into a high-profile romance. The couple married that same year, becoming one of the most talked-about celebrity couples of the time.

Their first son, Sean Preston, was born in September 2005. Their second son, Jayden James, arrived almost exactly a year later.

However, their marriage did not last. In November 2006, Spears filed for divorce, bringing their relationship to an end. The divorce was officially finalized in July 2007.

Federline had already started a family before meeting the singer. He shares a daughter, Kori, now 24, with actress Shar Jackson. Jackson was also pregnant with their son, Kaleb, when Federline began his relationship with Spears.

Kaleb, now 22, was born in July 2004, just months before Federline married the pop superstar.

Following his divorce from Spears, Federline went on to build another family with his current wife, Victoria Prince. The couple share two daughters, Jordan, 15, and Peyton, 12.

Britney Spears’ Relationship With Her Sons Appears to Be Improving

While Federline’s financial situation is now attracting attention, developments in Spears’ personal life suggest that her relationship with her sons may also be entering a new chapter.

For much of their childhood, Sean and Jayden primarily lived with their father. Following the end of Spears’ conservatorship in 2021, the singer became increasingly open about the difficulties she had experienced in maintaining a close relationship with her children.

The years of separation and reported tensions appeared to take an emotional toll on the singer, who has spoken publicly about how much she missed her sons.

However, as both boys have grown older, there have been encouraging signs that the family relationship could be healing.

Earlier this year, Sean joined his mother on a yacht trip, marking a significant moment in their relationship. Spears also shared photographs on social media showing herself spending time with both of her sons.

The reunion appeared to be an important step toward rebuilding their family bond.

Shortly afterward, Sean made a social media change that quickly caught the attention of fans. According to TMZ, he changed his Instagram display name from Sean Preston to Sean P Spears.

The change sparked interest among followers, many of whom viewed it as another possible indication of his growing connection to his mother’s side of the family.

As Federline faces questions over his reported six-figure bank debt, the developments surrounding Spears and her sons suggest that the family’s personal circumstances may be changing as the children enter adulthood.
