Monica Lin Brown was only 18 when an explosion turned an ordinary patrol into a desperate fight for survival.
An IED detonated beneath her convoy in Afghanistan, setting a vehicle on fire and leaving five soldiers badly wounded.
Then enemy fighters opened fire on anyone who tried to reach them.
Brown was an Army medic with the 82nd Airborne Division.
She knew exactly what was happening.
And she ran toward it.
