A devastating car crash in Hawaii has claimed the lives of two young women and left two others critically injured after their vehicle flipped and landed atop another car in a violent collision, according to multiple news outlets.
The tragic accident occurred late Tuesday night, June 17, on the Kamehameha Highway in O‘ahu. According to reports from KHON, HawaiiNewsNow, and the Honolulu Star-Advertiser, a 28-year-old woman was driving with three female passengers when their vehicle veered across the center line and collided head-on with another car traveling in the opposite direction.
Authorities told KHON that the vehicle carrying the four women was traveling at a high rate of speed prior to the crash. The impact was so severe that the car overturned and came to rest on top of the other vehicle.
Emergency responders arrived to find the 28-year-old driver and a 19-year-old passenger deceased at the scene.
The two remaining passengers, another 28-year-old woman and a second 19-year-old, suffered life-threatening injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
The other vehicle involved was being driven by a 17-year-old girl who was alone at the time of the collision. Miraculously, she sustained only minor injuries and was reported to be in good condition following the crash.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the accident, but initial findings point to excessive speed as a likely contributing factor. The names of the victims have not yet been publicly released, pending notification of their families.
The crash marks yet another tragic incident on Hawaii’s roads and has sparked renewed calls for caution and safer driving practices, particularly along the often dangerous stretches of Kamehameha Highway.
